亞洲政策中心將於本學期合作舉辦一個公共事務論壇：「人文與社會科學論壇：當代台灣議題」。我們想要邀請有意願的同學們共同參加這個活動，在參與討論的過程中，增進自己對於公共事務的思考和表達能力。

 無論你的母語為何，都非常歡迎有興趣的你一起參加活動。練習在公共的討論當中表達自己、聆聽他人的意見。

 論壇的主要目的有二：從廣義的人文與社會科學的角度討論台灣當代的議題與未來的方向；並且以英語從事討論，培養學生參與國際公共事務討論的能力。

 目前論壇的召集人為魏捷茲老師（人類所），並且由司徒文（亞洲政策中心主任 教授）、陳中民（人類所）兩位教授協辦。

• 時間：10/7（二）到1/13（二），每兩週一次的星期二晚上七點
• 地點：清華大學人社院D302 

每場聚會將有90-120分鐘的討論時間，以及隨後會有30分鐘的自由交流，現場會提供點心及茶水。

 有意參加的人，有兩種方式可以選擇：參與者，或是聆聽者。參與者需要比較主動的參與討論以及意見交流，聆聽者則是在現場作為觀眾，聆聽大家的討論。而聆聽者的名額，將視場地的容量來決定。

 The Center for Asia Policy is pleased to announce the beginning of our “A Humanities and Social Sciences Forum on Contemporary Taiwan Issues.” As our attached announcement points out, the Forum seeks to achieve two goals. The first is to address contemporary issues facing Taiwan from the perspective of the humanities and social sciences. The second is to be able to do so in a manner that ensures the broadest possible audience internationally. We attach below the Chinese and English descriptions of the Forum.

Whatever your first or second language may be, we would like to invite all interested students and faculty of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences to register for and join us in this English-language Forum, express yourselves and listen to others on the important topics of discussion, and hopefully strengthen your ability to express yourself in English in public. The forum will be highly interdisciplinary. We are especially pleased that the Center for Asia Policy is jointly hosting this Forum in cooperation with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Office of Global Studies, and the Institute of Anthropology. Professor James Wilkerson is the Forum organizer, while Professors Chen Chung-min and William Stanton serve as co-organizers.

The first Forum meeting will be this coming TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7 in the NTHU SALON ROOM on the first floor of the MAIN LIBRARY. We will begin the Forum at 7 p.m. and it will end by 9 p.m. A half-hour social will take place in the Center for Asia Policy immediately following the end of the Forum. Additional details will be provided to those who register to participate in the Forum. Those who do so can also get started immediately with the first week’s readings. The files for the Chinese and English descriptions of the Forum, as well as the Forum’s syllabus, are attached below. Students and faculty can access the Forum’s readings by clicking on the links in the syllabus.

We ask that interested students and faculty register for the Forum in advance by email and that you do so by this Friday, October 2, 2014. This will help us ensure sufficient seating and refreshments.
